The rise of technology has ensured more people than ever spend the majority of their workday sitting down, either in the office at a computer, in a mechanised trade or in a car repeatedly travelling between appointments.
A new research review, released by VicHealth as part of a workplace health awareness campaign, confirms the harm that can occur as a result of prolonged sitting or ‘sedentary activity’, including higher risk of diabetes and musculoskeletal diseases. The review urges employers to create ‘sitting reduction initiatives’.

A long serving youth justice worker has been awarded more than $20,000 compensation by Fair Work Australia after it ruled his dismissal to be unfair because his punishment differed from another employee who faced no disciplinary action for a nearly identical incident.

The dismissal of a mail delivery driver, who was sacked after an investigation found he used his work email account to send emails containing pornographic content, has been ruled unfair as the “punishment did not fit the crime”, according to Fair Work Australia.
