Monash Freeway chaos – why a second East-West Link for Melbourne is necessary

Yesterday one single road accident brought the entire south east of Melbourne to a near standstill, closing the Monash Freeway, the city’s only major freeway from the growing south east to the CBD and beyond.

The result was traffic chaos, with thousands of commuters hours late for work, and some even being forced to turn around and go home, resulting in much lost productivity.

The consequences of this road accident make it clear that a second major Melbourne east-west link is needed to reduce the unhealthy dependency residents and businesses in the city’s south east have on the Monash.

Extension of Melbourne Exhibition Centre vital

The extension is needed to attract expos, exhibitions and other business events requiring more space, in addition to enabling multiple events to be run concurrently.
