This year’s Good Friday just got…“good-er”, with Premier John Brumby announcing that Melbourne’s water restrictions will be eased from Good Friday onwards.
Melbourne’s water restrictions will be eased to Stage 3 from 3a from Good Friday onwards. Premier John Brumby said the “modest easing” would be effective from Friday April 2, with some restrictions eased immediately [Herald Sun]
Bridget: “VECCI welcomes moves to ease the restrictions in Melbourne, Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong and many other regional towns. The moves to increase environmental flows to the Yarra and Thomson and to provide more water to farmers in Werribee and Bacchus Marsh are also welcomed by the business community.
The decision to ease restrictions is attributed to both water efficiency from consumers and several water infrastructure projects that are vital to ensuring ongoing supply. The business community has also played its part through large and small scale water efficiency projects, individually and in partnership with Government.
While the moves suggest Victoria’s water supply crisis may be over, it is vital that the Government continue to promote prudent, sustainable management of water as the basis for good water capacity in future. Water scarcity is a fact of life we cannot avoid, even if we can ease the framework.”
